About the event

Asteroids are among the most ancient and informative objects in our solar system. Increasingly, they’re helping scientists understand how planets form, how life may have started, and how Earth might one day need to defend itself.

In this talk, Professor Fred Watson explores what recent missions—such as OSIRIS-REx to asteroid Bennu and Hayabusa2 to Ryugu—are revealing through the return of physical samples. He will also examine the unusual case of ‘Oumuamua, the first known object to enter our solar system from interstellar space, and the theories it has sparked about what lies beyond.

Through up-to-date research and clear explanation, Fred unpacks what these discoveries mean for planetary science, and how small bodies are helping answer some very large questions. Please note this event is live only and is not available online.
