Australia's First Dark Sky Place

AUSTRALIA'S FIRST DARK SKY PARK

Siding Spring Observatory is within the Warrumbungle Dark Sky National Park Dark Sky Park boundary.

What does this mean?

Designation by the International Dark-Sky Association has over 140 dark sky places all around the world. These parks, places, reserves and sanctuaries are deemed as having pristine night skies, free from light-pollution and supported by people who conserve the environment Day AND Night!

In 2015 Siding Spring Observatory, the Warrumbungle, Coonamble, Gilgandra and Dubbo Shire Councils and local stakeholders came together with the plan to become Australia's First Dark Sky Place.

The result:  some of the best night skies in Australia for generations to come!
