Program

DAY 1 – 29 April, 2023 – Darwin

Welcome to the Top End - a place like no other. This is not your ordinary adventure, capturing the beauty of the region on the edge of the wet season. Arriving into Darwin airport, you will be transported to the Adina Hotel for the night. (Based on Qantas 840 arriving at 12.20pm) Prepare to start our tour by meeting your co-adventurers with a welcome dinner with sunset views over Cullen Bay. (D)

 

DAY 2 – 30 April, 2023 – Litchfield National Park, Katherine

Plenty to see and do on this action-filled day through Litchfield National Park.  Home to several stunning waterfalls and crystal-clear pools, a swim in these beautiful waterholes before a picnic lunch may be just the ticket. We’ll walk amongst iconic magnetic termite mounds and clusters of weathered sandstone pillars at the Lost City. Leaving the National Park we’ll and ending the long day of adventure, we arrive late afternoon  at the Luxury Lodge Cicada Lodge outside of Katherine. A perfect destination to set up a telescope and sit back and count the shooting stars. (B,L, D)

 

Day 3 – 1 May, 2023 – Katherine

Enjoy the sanctuary of the ancient landscapes and lands of the Jawoyn people within the iconic Nitmiluk National Park from the resort. We’ll take a trip back into town to visit the Katherine Outback Museum originally constructed as an air terminal for the region during World War II. We head south to the Cutta Cutta Caves next, home to a variety of native wildlife and is rich in Indigenous culture and modern European history then head back to Nitmiluk for a cruise of the famous Katherine Gorge. We head back to the hotel for canapes at 6pm and suggest dinner at the hotel pool bar. (B)

 

Day 4 – 2 May, 2023 – Kakadu National Park

Moving into the heart of the World Heritage Listed Kakadu National Park, we’ll take time to walk into Edith Falls on our way to an early lunch at the Mary River Roadhouse. The renowned Anbangbang gallery and Kunwarddewardde lookout is our afternoon stop. The lookout surveys the impressive Arnhem Land escarpment with its sandstone cliffs and expansive savanna woodlands. Here, we’ll discover a concentration of numerous artistic styles such as Namarrkon (lightning man), and intriguing depictions of European sailing ships from first contact with white people. We check into the Cooinda Lodge before joining our Yellow Waters Cruise. Dinner is included at the lodge tonight.(B,D)

 

Day 5 – 3 May, 2023 – Kakadu National Park

Leaving our vehicles behind today, we see some of the less accessible parts of Kakadu on a full-day 4WD adventure tour with an experienced and knowledgeable guide. We’ll vsit the stunning waterfalls and waterholes of Kakadu's stone country. Depending on the weather, itineraries can include Gubara Rock Pools, Motorcar Falls, Boulder Creek, Ikoymarrwa Rock Holes, Gunlom Falls or Maguk Gorge. Dinner is included in the lodge again tonight. *Note: This tour requires a moderate to high level of fitness and good mobility. Alternative arrangements can be made.

 

Days 6 – 10 – 4-7 May, 2022 – Arnhem Land – Davidson’s Safari

Flying into Arnhem Land today, we head into the land of one the world’s oldest cultures. Here we’ll spend 4 nights at Davidson’s Arnhem Land Safari Lodge located in a pristine wilderness in northwest Arnhem land, much of which is registered as a sacred site.

Nestled against the Arnhem land escarpment is this landscape of rugged ranges fringed by idyllic billabongs, teeming with birdlife, crocodiles and barramundi. Valleys, overhangs and caves carved out by an ancient sea, have been occupied by aboriginal people for over 50,000 years. 

Here our days are spent with the choice of:

  • Visits to rock shelters with stunning rock art that spans thousands of years that give you insights into the aboriginal way of life from this region

  • Walks through savannah woodland, the local supermarket and finds plenty of local bush tucker

  • A boat trip through the many water channels and the open floodplain to see some of the 275 bird species found in the region

  • Barramundi fishing in the pristine Cooper Creek, the wet season waterfall is fantastic

  • A dip in the pristine natural swimming hole (seasonal) or relax poolside back at the lodge

  • A walk through the incredible catacombs that hold artifacts, signs of recent occupation and ancient mortuary rites.

  • Late afternoon on the billabong observing the wildlife including the many crocodiles that inhabit the watercourses, finish up with a glass of wine and nibbles as the sun sets over the floodplain

Day 10 – 8 May, 2023 – Arnhem Land – Darwin

Leaving Davidson’s behind today, we take a private flight from the property back to the big smoke, Darwin. Enjoy the scenic flight, viewing the area we have explored by car, land and water these past days. Our flight will arrive in time to join your return flight to Sydney or elsewhere.
